Lasker Award | SA couple win award for HIV & AIDS work

DURBAN – South African epidemiologists Quarraisha and Salim Abdool Karim have been recognised for their life-saving work on HIV/AIDS.
The two are this year’s recipients of the prestigious Lasker Award for public service.

The award is described as the US equivalent of a Nobel prize for science.
The power couple have launched research labs and trained hundreds of scientists across Africa. And they have used science to dispel myths and propaganda about AIDS.
